Promo art for my new webcomic project, Year of the God-Fox, scheduled for release next summer. Don't try going to the URL there just yet—we haven't got anything up, but hopefully I'll have a landing page ready soon.
This is a project I've been on the fence about advertising on FA and in the furry fandom, since as you can see the cast is about half-and-half human and animal. Heck, the main character is a fox-turned-human; that about sums up the theme of the story. But I had one person tell me he'd be mad at me if I made a comic and DIDN'T tell you guys, so! Here!
Year of the God-Fox follows the story of Saimaru, a god-fox, who is turned into a human and exiled to the human world for a year after slaughtering a village. Hilarious shenanigans ensue involving (clockwise from top left) a mysterious ronin, a rambunctious tanuki magician, a runaway princess, and a giant owl. The comic will be published online in 2013 and I hope to find a publisher to do a print edition for me.
This poster is a good example of the style of the artwork as—yes!—I'm coloring the entire thing with watercolors.
I'll have signed copies of this print available at AnthroCon next month, where you will also be able to get a sneak peak at the first few chapters!
Incidentally, the four characters around the outside represent the four seasons, which is what the little kanji in their circle means. Clockwise from top left: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. The swoopy green kanji in the top middle is the comic's name in Japanese: Kami-Kitsuné no Toshi.
Watercolors on bristol board. All art, characters and story © myself.
P.S. Saimaru is a MAN and if you doubt it he will PROVE IT TO YOU! D:<
