This piece was an experimentation in improvising. I have been trying to get my fingers used to these scales and chords I have been composing in, and transitioning and forming the harmonic shifts. I did all this as I imagined my homeland, the southwest, California/Arizona, the desert. I just came back from a quick visit to my family and friends back there and am now back in Massachusetts. My goal is to one day be able to improvise like Louis Vierne or Olivier Messiaen did, where their improvisations sounded like finished and polished compositions. I have a long way to go but I have to start somewhere.

This was done on one of my school's steinway grand pianos. School is out and a lot of students have now left, and now all these really good steinway and yamaha pianos are open for use which I have taken advantage of. It is only a shame I do not have a better microphone but in any case these pianos feel absolutely wonderful to the touch and have a very nice sound.
