Okay, a quick sketch of a scene that made me very happy on friday. I work at a k-12 school as a para-pro in the library. This school happens to be the one my mom runs, and is just about the most awesome school on the planet. It takes a lot of time to explain why it is, so instead I use examples, like this one.

Friday was the day of the all school picture. Rather than having risers like normal schools, the Open School chooses to gather all the students on the field in some kind of pattern they've laid out. This year it was a square within a square. I was standing in the back of the inside square with my mom when a small young boy (she knew him by name, I do not) asked her if she could lift him onto her shoulders. He was afraid he wouldn't be seen. She complied, and it made the boy's day.

How many students would ask that of their principal? At most schools, none. At this school? Most of them. Well, some wouldn't ask to be lifted onto her shoulders, but they feel free asking her anything, talking to her about anything. They love her, they love their school. It's an amazing environment.

I'm not sure if I'll color this one, I'm not entirely happy with it. I am rather proud of her shoes-- yes, she was wearing converse that day. Purple converse.
