Okay so this is a little late, but I went to see the midnight showing of Avengers and IT WAS AWESOME!! This movie was so worth all the build up that the last few years have been working towards. I know a lot of people have already reviewed the movie and said everything there is to say about it, but I might as well put my two cents in. If you haven't seen the movie, it's actually pretty simplistic, it's just your basic Bad Guy wants to take over the world and the Good Guys have to stop him. Honestly, that works just fine. Not every super hero movie has to be a Dark Knight, sometimes just a simple good vs evil story is all you need. What makes this movie great is the characters primarily The Avengers and Loki. This is obviously because they had five movies of character development so that the movie itself could focus on the team. Because of this, no character overshadowed the others. I was worried that because the villain was Loki, that Thor might have been focused on more than the others but that wasn't the case.
Speaking of Loki, he was a great villain. Even though it was established very early in the movie that Loki was working for a greater power, it didn't detract from the threat he posed to the characters. Humorously, there was a running joke in the movie that every time Loki started giving a cliche villain speech, one the Avengers would come in and hit him, and hit him, and hit him. Despite that he stayed in control of the situation throughout most of the movie which says a lot about his character.
Now does the movie have flaws? Of course it does, every movie does. Probably the biggest one is the Skrulls (yes I know they're called the Chitauri in the movie, but that Ultimate comics name is stupid) They don't really do much, Loki summons them through a giant portal (which looks a lot like the space bridge from Transformers: Dark of the Moon) they fight the Avengers and they're defeated. We don't learn why they're working with Loki or how he met them.
Thor's explanation for how he got back to Earth is also pretty lame. Odin just sort of sent him to Earth and that's it completely ignoring the "Without the Bifrost Bridge we can't get you back to Midgar". This is why they probably should have made Thor 2 before the Avengers so we could get a proper explanation on how he got back. Also, this is just a personal nit-pick of mine but, even though Hawkeye is around at the very start of the movie, he spends 3/4 of it as a slave of Loki's mind control, and considering Hawkeye is my favorite Avenger that kinda irked me.
At any rate, Avengers was an amazing movie well worth the hype, and I highly recommend it. And with that let me just end with "Avengers Assemble!"
