I've actually heard (but not confirmed) that the Mayan's not only didn't take Leap Year into consideration, but that the math was wrong; it's supposed to be a century further into the future 2112 (magic number! :P). I could be wrong, but the Leap Yer thing is probably true.

2012 is not the end of the world. The myan calender runs on combinations and the combinations run out in the year 2012 aka: the end f the myan long calender. Stupid psyco derps made this up to get attention. Also at 4:55 am in Florida a new era of space travel will begine with a rocket launch putting the first privage company in space!
