You do know the moon controls the gravitational pull on the earth as well. If the moon were to suddenly vanish all man kind would lose it's gravity and we would all be pulled into space and horribly killed. It does more than just "light the night". If anything it's a lot more important than a sun, and a star technically is another sun just further way. It sounded like you wanted to down play the importance of yourself amongst the other personifications of unearthly materials, but in fact the moon is the most important of them all.

In one theory of the planet, the moon is actually a large piece of the earth that broke off, but died because the earth blocks the sun from the moon and thus nothing grew on it. The moon is very important. If ever the gravitational pull is offset just a little bit, gigantic tidal waves will wash over the world. If it's offset even a slight bit more, everyone will get nose bleeds and massive headaches. The moon is extremely vital to the earth's existance. It's also like a shield from meteors. Have you noticed the moon has a lot of craters and holes in it from meteors that hit it. Now imagine if the moon wasn't there...guess where those meteors would hit? The moon is also the earth's protector.
