The vaguely feline nose and tail are the only things that would remotely suggest it's anything but a wolf. The wolf-ears, canine snout, huge canine paws and canine claws all point to wolf.
*shrug* Maybe Shiro just can't draw cats as well as he can wolves. That's not meant to be a knock, as his cougarwolf looks great.
