The furry rocket scientist gives approval to launch this rare Mercury Atlas model in tribute of the orbital flights of Project Mercury which happened fifty years ago. The model has only flown 3 times since completed over 15 years ago.

Rocket, that's a sweet looking model ya got there! I see the added fins to stabilize. (The real M-A had gyros) Ya know I had an older friend who worked on that 'escape tower' jettison rocket with the NASA design team. He knew W. Von Braun as a close friend.
I was pretty lucky to be of the age that I remember watching the TV (Black & White TV of course) coverage of Alan Shepard's flight on his Mercury-Redstone. I followed the NASA program from that childhood thru to oh Heck- the shuttle.
It was that NASA program that inspired me to be the tech/ engineer that I are now! ;)
