in that story line Tiamat was the good dragon. Was more the old legend 'mother of creation' before she went mad with the slaughter of her chaos dragon mate and started killing things.

I was going off the DnD 4.5 translation of the story. Which story are you reading, I always love a new prospective on the characters that interest me so.

In the version I know, she killed her brother in her fathers kingdom to make her other brother look bad, and was cast out. She then went mad and started slaughtering anything that she could find. Buhamut pledged to keep her back for their father's sake, Io. The brother that she killed was the first son of Io, Vorel. All 3 of them were dragons, and Io is a dragon-like entity.
