I think its the perspective. Usually when something is farther away it appears higher/shorter than something closer even though its on the same ground. Without that the image would look 2 dimensional and flat.

True. O: But one must note that from both the degree of foreshortening as well as the angle of the right leg gives the impression of a rather steep incline.

I really admire how dynamic all your poses are. It really says something about you as an artist that you can consistently come out with fantastic, well-rendered characters in interesting stances and unusual angles and add that extra bit of action.
