Here's another (freehand) sketch of a kangaroo head, based on a photograph I had taken. This time the coloring experiment was based on using the airbrush in Manga Studio, on the charming theory that this would let me get something that looked more like fur.
I'm more satisfied with the blending of colors --- that different-colored fur overlays in complicated patterns --- but it still doesn't look like strands of hair. It's too regular, too uniform.
I might use this later on to experiment with the changing of layers of color at once, since the tutorials I've seen have mentioned how easy this is supposed to be.

Thank you. I suppose what I really want to do is get a method of drawing fur that gets the blend of colors right, as well as the different textures, and the shapes, and most of all that doesn't take forever to actually draw in. Nothing for it but practice, I suppose, though.
