This is a composite of three seperate pics strung together to show the Corliss Steam Engine on display at Carrilon Historical Park in Dayton, OH. This engine was used to power the original National Cash Register factory.
Its impossible to get a full angle shot of this thing becuase the buildings its in is to small so I made this.

The live steam railroad group next door has pondered on getting this thing turning with an electric motor. However this things been on display since the 1950's and no one knows if the machinary was balanced correctly when installed or if it was just plopped down and the building put up around it. They don't know if the bearings would bind or not.
Hmm, the engineering papers didn't get preserved, that sucks. They'd be able to figure all that out with those.
I 'spose they could bar the engine very gently, or even better, contact the guys at the Tod Engine Heritage Park on the other side of the state in Youngstown, Ohio.
It would be very cool to see it move, even if it's just electric. I wish them luck!
