A long-overdue commission for
seasenshi! She ordered this back at AFF (in March, bad Foxy e.e), and I'll admit it posed quite a few challenges to me (hence the long wait).
Several things had me stumped. The pose, the body style, the hat, the textures, the lighting... I did a LOT of preliminary and mock-up work, and went through at least three drafts of this before I got it right.
I dunno. I'm still not entirely happy with the colors, but I don't know exactly what else I could do to improve it.
Anyway, this is based largely on my childhood memories. I grew up on a farm, and loved it. My grandfather's barn was kind of old, and there were great gaps between the boards that let an odd kind of lighting happen. I loved watching the dust floating in the slats of sunlight.
There were large spaces in-between the floorboards, too, but I don't like remembering those, especially the ones in the hayloft. D:
Farm life is a lot of hard work, but to me, there is no place better to live, and certainly no place more beautiful. I hate living in the city now, and I yearn for my childhood.
But don't let me depress you! Just enjoy Miss Michiru. She is such a sweetie. <3 (hope you like it!)

altho, your description about seeing the dust particles floating in the sunlight coming in between the slats was awesome. i grew up in the country too and that description brought back some great memories. :) thank you

is that now considered chibi? anyway, it's way cute, and i love the colours. I don't know what to do to improve either, but maybe sharper lighting might have helped. where the sunrays go, especially. so the viewer could see them rays coming through between the gaps.
but this works well as it is. maybe more would have been too much.

Yee! <3 I'm really glad you like her... I wanted it to be special.
And hey, no worries about it being a challenge - I LOVE a good challenge, and I think I learned a great deal in drawing this.
Mmm... old barns. I need to find one around here to roll around in.
*chirrs* Drop me an email with your mailing addy, and I'll get her in the mail for you! *loves*
