Here's another picture of my Original Character, Warren. I've been working on this picture off-and-on as a study break from final exams. I've finally had the chance to finish it. I was experimenting with yet another way of coloring, which I liked well. I started with very rough, blocky daubs of color, then used a blender brush devised by Nebezial on DeviantArt (obtained here: http://nebezial.deviantart.com/art/blender-brush-78999414?q=boost%3Apopular%20((brush)%20AND%20(by%3Anebezial))&qo=0 )
No outlines are fun~
As for the scene, Warren is lost in a barren waste within the Nevernever (the Dresdenverse spirit world that parallels our own). This place has been twisted into a refuge by a mysterious being who gathers young magical talents, training them to become warlocks. With the strong malevolent taint in the air, Warren has transformed partially; a process his t-shirt did not survive. At first, I thought I'd just go with a dusty waste, but this place is meant to be warped and surreal, so I drew inspiration from one of my favorite artists, Rodger Dean.
Warren is a human/fu-beast hybrid, the human equivalent of a fu-dog. He is rather self conscious about his appearance, as his strength and musculature are the result of his supernatural ancestry, rather than something he earned through diligent work and he hates his tendency to suffer from Hulk-like clothing malfunctions. He is also rather shy and reserved, and dislikes it when people expect him to have an 'alpha dog' personality. Much of the time, he assumes a more human form. When confronted by a supernatural threat, he cannot hold his inhuman heritage back, and often ends up looking like this. He has a further transformed state which looks significantly less human and more fu-dog-like.... but I only have rough sketches of his other states.
When designing his musculature, I was working with a theme of 'grotesque' and 'ill-fit'. His body suffers from the problems that go with being a hybrid, manifesting inherited characteristics that do not necessarily coexist well, leading to both awkwardness and pain for Warren. (This is inspired by problems with Ligers, in which the growth promotion they experience due to the father lion's genetics is not restricted by the mother tiger's womb environment, causing their extremely large adult size).
