So I go to class today. And ze teacher is like "Where is your reference items?" And I'm like "I dont like to draw from reference items, cause I like to use my imagination." And he goes into this BLASPHEMY about how anyone can draw from there imagination and it doesn't count. So I'm like fuk yous guys and walk over to Starbucks and buy me a drink and drink it in front of him and when I was done I started drawing it. And he's like "WORK ON YOUR COMPOSITION SKILLS."

I dont know what to say.
My teach is just a bitch. How can an art teacher be so controlling over... art? If you can call it that. I know he's trying to make us do better, but damn. Does NAGGING help? It just makes me not want to do any projects any more.

If he wasn't amazingly good at balancing subject matter and COPYING FROM A REFERENCE and making it look good, I would say no. I looked at a lot of his stuff, and I was really impressed by it. I was like "Wow, he's really good at this. I'm surprised this school actually has a good art teacher in it."
Boy was I wrong >( Every picture he's ever done was COPIED. If he had to make a picture without something to copy from, he'd be fucking stuck. In fact, we're not even ALLOOOOOWED to draw a picture in his class without using a refence. And we're CERTAINLY not allowed to draw something that doesn't exist. That would just be fucking HORRIBLE.

Huhs? My art teacher said to use a reference, just to do just that... as a reference... not to copy from. He always told me that draw what you see in your mind rather than what's there. Sounds like your teacher has technical skills, but lacks imagination. I guess that's why he is teaching.

art teachers generally suck ass and want the class to do everything exactly like them. Sadly you have to go browsing before picking up your art classes. My friend and I had this very discussion comparing art teachers. His was awesome and encouraged uniqueness. Mine was controlling.

Like i said, anyone who teaches from opinion and thier preference has no room in a class where creativity and originality is paramount...
