HaD: Ready for Battle
Reptile – The Score
Volume VIII: “Heroes And Darkness”
Composed by Patrick Reichel
Track 06: “Ready for Battle”
The next track… now some moderate tension and situative music!
I LOVE this new track! I’m really happy with it. I mean, we have a sophisticated structure, composition, a very catchy theme and even a more or less situative part in the middle of the track.
In the middle, you can even hear a hint of the “Rising Menace” theme and: the “Groul” theme… almost hidden. ^^
Enjoy!!!

Yes, no shit! ^_^ Yepp, I did this myself. It can still be improved, though... as always.
Though I must say that my previous songs have been a good preparation for this.
In the past, I composed my music by using a simple keyboard, but I'm using sound software these days.
But the starting process is always the same: pen and paper... and some notes.

So inspiring that´s for sure, you´re right, this one is pretty amazing ^ ^ The composisions are well played to each instrument.
By the way, were you planning on making a melancolic or sad theme? A theme that represesnt a scene where something that makes everyone feel bad just happen.
Just saying because most of your tracks are very possitive and epics too, but in your world there has to be bad events, events that it´s needed a theme, don´t you think?

Actually I just imagined a scene where the main characters were reuniting their men, walking to the battle field, watching the enemy from the otherside and been preparing for the first move. In other words, you´re objective for the thematic is a success ^ ^
So you´re planning to make a lost battle´s them, huh? Not bad actually, there´s more options too, like if the heroes are in a difficult momment during a battle, just about to loose hope to win and almost die by the enemy, or that someone beloved is agonizing in front of someone cherished, dying little by little. Something that can be very touchy to make someone letting a tear at least for the feeling.
I know, that´s too much heh, but I use to hear all kind of soundtracks with a believable music that transfered the feelings to the one who´s hearing them.

The only thing that battle sounds in this piece is the martial rhythm. The melody, however, shows few drama, (meaning you approach a battle), I dunno, is very happy, very light very "positive" how say Symbolhero to a next battle (a dramatic situation). But I like the quality recording I think it could improve even further with good post-production work.
This tune really has a mood! It sort of immediately reminded me to Wesnoth, and Warcraft II, well, guess why (Both are fantasy themed strategy games, Battle for Wesnoth is an open-source one with some very decent musics, Warcraft, well, the title should be known for just about anyone, if from nothing else, that MMORPG game. Warcraft II is an old real time strategy game with some tunes similar in feel to this music). I think it really got me, to feel the march, the preparations of a battle in those eras. I won't even attempt to criticize anything (Like I usually do), there is just nothing in this I could point out, it feels just all right! Maybe just that it has a very slight "oldschool" feel, a little mod-like, that, if one wanted, could probably polish it further to get it even deeper, but on the other hand it is just right that way in that style, too. It would go very well with some appropriate cut-scene of a game from the early 2000's. Sorry for that, I mean, the judging by computer games, it's just that one gets to listen to similar musics playing those, and not like reading for example Tolkien's books :)
Yay!! Reading a comparison of my song to "Wesnoth" or even "Warcraft" is definitely high praise!! ^____^
I do know the older "Warcraft" games, indeed. And both titles "WI" and "WII" have been a source of inspiration to me. ^^"
Wow, thanks a lot for this great and positive comment... I'm totally flattered! I don't know what to say... I mean, you ARE ALLOWED to critizise, too. ^^" But if there's nothing for you to mention... even BETTER! *dances*
And yes, some "post-production" or "mixing" could even improve my works.... but I lack the media for this.
And don't worry, I LOVE "old school" stuff and all the older scores. I even love the good old 8-Bit music!

Huh, you made me smile, glad I apparently hit the chord here! :) The music definitely gave me the clue - it really brought me the feel of the mentioned games, from Warcraft II, I actually mostly ended recalling the Orcish tunes listening this one, it just fit so well! For the 8 bits - well, I also like a lot SID (Gordian Tomb?), and whatever they mixed from them (Glyn R. Brown? - if I mentioned Gordian Tomb before), and of course watching and listening demoscene products (Desert Dream? :) ) too!
I have to say, I grew up with "MIDI" music from "Warcraft" or even older stuff, like "DOOM" and... yeah, I'mm 33 years old. So you get the picture!! XD 80s music FTW! ^___^
I also love modern stuff, yeah... but the games you've mentioned pretty much influence(d) my styles. And I love them the most!!!

No, I don't sell my music. So far it's all free:

The albums EPISODE I-VII are filled with songs composed with my old YAMAHA keyboard. Only EPISODE VIII is completely done with new digital sound media and composing software.
There are old goodies here and there on the past albums, anyway...
