Chapter 1:
A Stranger in a Strange Land

“Cease this foolishness!” insisted a yellow hadrosaur as he charged into the room.
“Foolishness?” replied a surprised, red hadrosaur as he turned to face his assailant. “Was it not our shared dream to give our kind the gift of freedom from this prison of concrete and metal?”
The yellow hadrosaur forced himself to the control panel of the strange machine his colleague was operating.
“I’ve locked the controls!” stated the red hadrosaur. “It saddens me how I had predicted your lack of faith in what was to be our greatest triumph.”
Truent took hold of his colleague’s coat collar as he gravely proclaimed, “You’ve just sentenced us all to death, Rastan!”
“No!” Rastan replied emphatically. “You’re wrong! My calculations are perfect!”
Truent shook Rastan as he stated, “You fool! Your calculations couldn’t possibly account for whatever conditions bind the Celestial Stones to our world!”
“Gravity!” scoffed Rastan.
PSSHEWW!
Truent and Rastan were snapped away from their discussion as the machine fired a massive beam of light straight for the heavens.
“You’ll see!” exclaimed Rastan. “The machine shall bring down the chosen Celestial Stone right where it’s supposed to!”
The pair watched speechless as the machine went about its work. At first everything seemed to be going according to Rastan’s plan. However, it wasn’t long before one falling rock became two, then three, and then hundreds.
“This…” gasped Rastan as he watched the night sky illuminate with white balls of fire.
“Is the end,” stated Truent grimly as he watched the initial stone direct itself straight for them.
Rastan ran towards the machine and took hold of the strange jewel that had been used as its power source.
“I CAN FIX THIS!” he cried with desperation as he firmly clenched the jewel with both hands.
“RASTAN!” called Truent as he chased after his colleague.
SKASHEEE-OOO!
A great burst of white light erupted from the jewel just as the initial stone crashed down upon the building the two had been occupying. Soon after, the rest of the great city of the hadrosaurs was battered by a relentless barrage of Celestial Stones that did not cease until nearly every trace of their great civilization was eradicated out of existence.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
This is the Prologue for what will become the tale in which inspired the Haposaurs. The original version of this story was incomplete even after 200+ pages of manuscript was written for it over 12 years ago. It is my hope it re-writing this story to shed light on how the Haposaurs came to be while setting up for the grand finale of the Welcome to Saurral Manor series in which is titled "The City of Solitude". All chapters for this tale from now on will likely be in .RTF format to support the modest size in which is needed to present each portion of the tale.
