The Whole World Went Away
Warning: This story contains soft vore and violence.
My name is Samantha. I was a high school graduate and was about to apply to a college before everything took a turn for the worst. Not just for me, but for every human in the world. I was going to study the creation and mechanics of politics and laws and try to make a change in a world that so desperately needed heroes. But mankind became even more desperate for heroes after that fateful week...
It was my first day at my new college and during my English class there was an emergency broadcast on the television. The broadcast told us that a state of emergency had been declared and that everyone was required to wear protective medical masks and to try to stay indoors. It said that a mysterious rock formation had crashed onto the planet and that when scientists attempted to study the strange meteorite it cracked open, releasing a large cloud of a colourless, gas-like substance into the atmosphere. In a matter of hours, reports of a massive 'common cold' epidemic sweeping across the current and surrounding countries saying that nearly the entire population were beginning to show signs of the 'common cold' and were overwhelming the hospitals and pharmacies in a panic thinking that something terrible was about to happen. In a way they were right to assume that and the ensuing stocking up would help many individuals survive the hell that awaited them. But when the symptoms died down, everything seemed to gradually return to normal. For a bit at least.
They call it the Chryshalis virus. It is an airborne disease that spread across the planet in a matter of days. The virus can only be contracted by humans and nothing can allow it to be spread to other animals which is a very good thing. It is not fatal or even very detrimental to most humans since the virus has an incredibly low fatality rate; the lowest of any known disease in the world and even those infected exhibit symptoms similar to that of a common cold: sneezing, a bit of coughing and a runny nose. Strangely though the symptoms seemed to disappear after one day; as if our immune systems became the cellular versions of the special forces: efficient, disciplined and quick to respond. We shrugged off the disease as a sort of one-time incident and for most of us that was true. But for some of us, the virus had a much more drastic and dramatic effect on its host.
About eight days after the meteor crashed down, people started to... change. Transform even. It's hard to describe really, but some people started turning. Suddenly and without warning, someone would collapse on the floor in agony and start thrashing around as though they were having a seizure. Then thier skin would start changing; their teeth would morph and they would grow in size. Before we knew it, human civilization was under attack by millions of monsters. Giants, enormous birds and even creatures of mythology began to rampage in the streets and communities across the world; devouring anyone unlucky enough to get caught by their new predators.
When they transformed, the former humans seemed to lose all semblance of humanity and self control and proceeded to gorge themselves on those who just minutes before they called thier fellow man. The police and even the military tried their best to protect the populace from these massive creatures, but they were caught completly off guard and they were trained to fight other humans; not monsters. The cities were now ruled by: hydras, giant eagles, giant wolves and many other creatures that I don't even know what to call. I was caught in one of these feeding frenzies and I couldn't stop pondering how out of all those people I managed to get away. Left and right I saw people getting picked up or charged by those chasing us and either get torn to bloody bits and consumed or gingerly being picked up and popped into a predator's mouth. I think the only reason I wasn't killed was because all the monsters were busy eating everyone around me. It was very traumatic and while wandering and hiding from the worlds new masters it was the only thing that I could think about.
However, none of those creatures could be compared to the monster that was chasing me now. I was huddling inside of an abandoned kitchen; wondering if I could grab one of the many knives scattered about and attempt to fight back against my pursuer. Those who owned this house had obviously left in a hurry because of the sudden anarchy since bits of unfinished meals and various junk lay littered all over. I rejected my earlier thought. If I got caught I was a dead woman; simple as that. I could only run, hide and pray that what was giving chase wouldn't find me.
You might be wondering what is chasing me? Well I've mentioned a motley assortement of different monsters right? Some are just larger versions of animals that once or already exist. Others are creatures that never existed except in the collective imagination. Others still are simply slightly larger versions of different earthly creatures. But what was chasing me was by far the most terrifying monster I had ever seen. I was being hunted by a dragon.
Don't be fooled though. This isn't the type of dragon that you read about in a fairy tale or in a fantasy novel or even see in a movie. For one thing, those dragons walk on four legs and they are usually pretty big, but not gigantic. The dragon that I encountered looked much different from what I thought a dragon would look like.
For three months after I escaped the initial catastrophe, I had been moving from shelter to shelter and rationing whatever I found the best I could. It was risky, but staying outside for too long was certain to get you caught. I was trekking through the wilderness; my previous domicile was slowly running out of supplies and I had to find a new place to hole up or risk starving to death. The night was approaching quickly and I knew continuing my walk in the dark was suicide. I found an abandoned truck in the middle of a clearing and decided that it was as good a bed as any. The vehicle was unlocked, I climbed inside and made my way to the back to settle down. It was difficult to get to sleep and my bed was far from comfortable, but I somehow found a way to rest despite my stressful situation.
I woke up the next morning only slightly resfreshed; I still felt dead tired. I rose up and rubbed my temple a bit to shake off the last vestiges of sleep that lingered inside me. I was about to get out of the truck when I heard a loud whooshing sound like the beating of wings and a booming crash as the airborne animal landed near my position. Fear shot up inside me and I proceeded to hide the best I could in the back seat; hoping that whatever monster this was didn't have an improved sense of smell. I figured that the creature must be massive since I could hear its excited breathing and sniffing. “Drat, it's going to smell me”, I thought. If it was sniffing then it would find me soon enough. The only thing that I could do is run. I eased myself over to the front of the truck and prepared myself for the sprint of my life. I would need all the luck in the world to survive today. I waited on the off-chance that my hunter didn't detect me, just the small chance it didn't sense me. But those hopes were dashed as I saw a large, cat-like blue eye directly above the dashboard; scanning the interior for its body's next meal. It spotted me and I didn't hesitate any longer as I threw the door open and began to dash as fast as my renewed muscles could carry me.
I only turned around for a second to see what was my eventual pursuer. I gaped in shock and my legs seemed to be paralysed by terror. Standing close to 80 feet tall was a dragon. Wait! How could that be! It didn't look like a dragon at all! This dragon stood on two legs, had short, crimson hair and even wore a huge white cloth across its groin. It looked human! But I knew that it wasn't human because those were the only three similarities this creature had with us. The dragon had black scales the pitch of obsidian stone. Two huge leathery wings protruded from its back and a long serpentine tail wagged rythmically behind it. A curved, dark nail lay at the end of all four of its claws; each one capable of impaling me like a spear. The dragon's maw was lined with white fangs. I could just imagine hordes of people being crushed beneath those terrible keratin swords; soaking them with human blood. Its eyes were mystifying orbs of blue fire that seemed to pierce my brain like a knife
The dragon was salivating and I couldn't say or do anything as I watched it lick its lips with a long, slimy forked tongue. “Hmmmmm. It's rare to find one of you little guys just lying around. I guess this must be my lucky day.”, the dragon spoke with a clearly masculine voice.
The fact that the dragon could speak was enough to break me down completly. “Y...You can talk?” It was such a surprise because almost every human changed by the Chryshalis virus lost their ability to speak the human language once their transformation was complete.
“Well, yes. I'm... a little special.” He started to approach and lean down ever so steadily. It was then that I remembered how much danger I was in and as if in response my legs regained their mobility. I darted off into the forest. “Hey, wait!”, the dragon called. I didn't listen. Why should I? He wants to eat me! I dextorously darted between the trees and various other foliage with great skill. The last few months of moving from spot to spot as fast as I could prepared me for this life or death situation. I heard the loud lifting of the dragon's body as he lifted himself into the sky. The hunt had begun...
I was very fortunate as to where the chase had started. The trees and vegetation made it almost impossible for the airborne predator to gain a lock on me despite his enhanced sight. However, it was a mixed blessing. I also knew that staying in the forest wasn't a good idea either. If I stopped and hid, the dragon would simply need to land somewhere inside the forest and strip away any obstacles away until he reached his snack. I needed a better place to hide, a place where he wouldn't be able to reach me. I was also fortunate that I wasn't that far away from a nearby rural town. I was sure that I'd be able to find a place to hide there. I continued my desperate sprint until I broke the tree line and immediately darted for a nearby house. I barely made it into the backyard before I heard the distinctive crash of the monster that was right at my heels.
“If I'm a second too slow I'll be...”, I thought. I purged the thought from my mind. “Now is not the time for that!”, I shouted at myself. I sped towards the back door and shouldered it with all my might. The door flew off its hinges, but the impact also knocked me off balance and I tripped. I crawled away from the open doorway. Just in time too for at that moment a large, black finger poked through the opening and missed my feet by mere inches. I heard an annoyed grunt as the finger was quickly replaced by one of his large, reptilian blue eyes. I couldn't move under his gaze. It felt like I was caught by the stare of a medusa; I couldn't move. They looked so terrifying, but beautiful as well in a strange sort of way.
“Come on! You don't have to be so hard to catch! I will admit though. You're pretty fast for someone without wings.”, the dragon said impressed.
I couldn't respond or accept his compliment. I was so scared that I seemed to almost forget to breathe. The eye disappeared and I suddenly felt the house begin to shake. I knew immediately what the dragon was doing. He was tearing off the roof so that he can get me! I snapped out of my statue-like trance and got back to my escape attempt. Just as I heard the the roof detach itself from the rest of the building, I managed to sprint through the front door and run over to the house opposite. The dragon was so occupied in searching in the original house that he didn't even notice me moving position. The door was thankfully unlocked and I quickly slipped inside.
I opened the drapes of a nearby window to check on my would-be predator. He was still searching the other house for the meal that somehow still eluded him and he even cursed once when he grabbed something that must've looked like until he realized it was just a piece of draped furniture. My mind quickly jumbled together a list of my possible options. First, I could stay in this house and hope he'll go away. I didn't really like this idea. The dragon was eventually going to figure out that I wasn't in that house and when that happened he would begin to search every house by means of elimination. He would find me no doubt about that. Second, I could make a run for it. I didn't like this idea either. Earlier, I had gotten extremely lucky happening to run through a thick landscape and barely making it to safety. If it came down to a footrace the dragon would certainly win. I just can't outrun a creature that can fly. The only way I would be able to run faster than him is if I had a rocket. That is apparently out of the question. The only choice left was the third: finding a place he couldn't reach. I quickly searched the house, but didn't find anything that could hide me from the prying eyes of my hunter. I peeked again through the windows and found my goal. A manhole in the middle of the street! If I got into the sewers there was no way that dragon would be able to reach me! I was afraid; very afraid to go back out there with that thing, but it was the only way I was going to survive past this day.
I lessened my fear with certainty. “Alright, be cunning, be aware, and most importantly, be quick.”, I told myself as a form of reassurance. It worked. I slowly opened the door. The dragon was still occupied with searching the previous house for his tasty morsel. He had his back turned and didn't seem to have noticed me even though I was right behind him. I quickly, but quietly made my way into the street to stand right above the manhole. It had been cracked slightly open removing the necessity for a crowbar or other prying tool. I grabbed the rim and began to push with all my might. It was extremely heavy, however I managed to remove the manhole completly off. I gazed down into the shadowy pit that led underground and smiled triumphantly. It seemed that I had evaded capture.
My imagined victory was short-lived. As I was about to step on the ladder leading down into the sewers, I suddenly felt a great force seem to coil itself around my back and chest. I looked down and my eyes widened when I saw a large black mass wrapped around my body. It was a tail! “That meant that...!” My thoughts were interrupted as I felt myself being lifted and was suddenly suspended over 60 feet above the ground. The tail flipped over and I came face-to-face with the smug, terrifying monster. The dragon had bared its many fangs in a large, excited smile. I had lost...
The dragon reached behind my powerless body and replaced the constrictive tail with two of its fingers before uncurling. I had felt more secure in the monster's tail! At least with the tail I didn't feel like I was hanging onto life by the width of a hair. Now I was simply dangling above the hard, concrete ground. Also adding to the fact that I hate heights!
“That was fun! That was by far the most challenging chase I've had so far! You're really good at hiding. For a moment, I feared that I had actually lost you.”, the dragon boomed appraisingly. I couldn't listen; couldn't respond. It was impossible. I knew I was about to die either from a fall or as this dragon's lunch! “Seeing that you're not going anywhere... I'd like to know your name cute little human.”
I raised an eyebrow in disbelief. Was this dragon flirting with me!? “Um...”, I gulped. “S...S...Samantha.”, I managed to blurt out.
“Samantha”, the dragon slowly pronounced my name as he flicked out his tongue. It almost seemed like he was tasting my name. A very discomforting connection.
“My name is Joseph. I'm very happy to meet you Samatha. These last few months have been very lonely...”, Joseph's expression turned to one of downcast sorrow, but it lasted only a second before returning to his anticipating, victorious grin. “Now that all the introductions have been dealt with its time for my favourite part”, the dragon hissed. I knew what was coming and summoned the remainder of my strentgh and energy to try to wiggle my way out. As I thrashed, the dragon leaned in inches away from me and parted his jaws to allow his tongue to flick out and give me a long lick across my body. The tongue retracted between his fangs and now it was apparently his turn to be surprised. I barely noticed the shocked expression that passed over the dragon's face while I struggled against him.
He lifted his hand; carrying my body up over his head. “NOOOO! Please don't!”, I said as I desperately tried to unhook his fingers. It was all too much. My mind couldn't take it anymore and I began to release tears of despair.
Joseph had noticed and held up his other hand almost comfortably. “Please don't cry Samantha. I promise it won't hurt. Actually from what I've been told, it may be soothing for you.” The lips parted and revealed the cavernous maw of my hunter.
I shrieked in fright as I gazed down into the never-ending abyss that was Joseph's throat. A pit full of rusty spikes would've been more appealing compared to the saliva drenched teeth that stood below me now. I screamed as I continued to try and pry his fingers loose without realizing that even if I succeded I would still end up in exactly the same place otherwise. His fingers parted I felt myself falling through the air until I landed onto his tongue with a soft 'plop'. I tried to scramble my way out but the only chance of my escape quickly sealed shut. I was trapped in slimy darkness. The tongue began to hug me and move me all around the monster's mouth; savouring every last inch of his rare treat. It was extremely disorienting and the darkness didn't really help either. I was sloshed around for what seemed like hours; a few times I could've sworn that he even sucked on me. Inevitably, I felt the rising of his tongue causing me to slide on a narrow incline. The whole time as I slid downwards I tried to thrash, punch and kick anything in relative sight seeing that there was no light. The ecstatic sounds made from my predator only infuriated me more and more. I even screamed in rage and defiance which sometimes earned me a mouthful of saliva. Sadly, none of these efforts would help me escape my fate.
I tumbled down the slimy tongue; completly powerless against the dragon's body as I felt my feet touch the rough, strong muscles of the creature's jugular. I tried to cling on with as much force as my tired muscles could muster, but the slippery membrane resisted all my attempts of anchoring myself inside his mouth. Ironic that a second ago I wanted to be outside his mouth and now I could settle for staying in his mouth. As my wet hands failed me I lost my grip and my death was sealed.
The throat was extremely constrictive as I slid down the fleshy slide. So constrictive that I couldn't even scream or yell since the pressure made it difficult to breath and the saliva would always fly straight into my mouth. I imagined what I looked like from the outside. A small rounded bulge slowly traveling down the dragon's throat. The pressure seemed to increase slightly on my front and I wondered what it could be. The only thing that I figured it could be was if Joseph was tickling the bulge running down his neck. I was disgusted at the extent that my hunter was enjoying his depraved game. Shortly afterwards, I felt my legs enter a much larger space and realized that I was reaching his stomach to join the countless other humans who had suffered the same end. I tried to fight back, but I just couldn't anymore. It was incredibly hot in here and everytime I did strike at my fleshy prison it just seemed to absorb the blow. I felt the pressure leave my body an inch at a time until I fell fully into the stomach.
I couldn't believe it. I escaped the initial turmoil and survived over three months on my own just so that I can get eaten by the biggest and cruellest monster I ever saw. I trudged through the thick liquid until I came to a stomach wall. The magnitude of my failure finally sunk in and I just collapsed, defeated. The smell inside wasn't very pleasant, but oddly not nauseating. I also wondered how come I wasn't in excruciating pain. It would hurt if I was being digested right? I slung my backpack over and opened it. I ignored the fact that I would soak my pack with saliva, but I needed to ease my mind. I pulled out a flashlight and turned it on. A task made very difficult since I was literally soaked. The white beam of light illuminated my surroundings; revealing the wet walls and pool of drool that lay at the bottom where I lay. What? Drool!? Shouldn't it be acid?
Joseph sighed, “Samantha that was absolutely incredible! I do hope you don't mind if I do this to you again sometime in the near future. Hey if you have some energy left would you mind struggling for a little longer? It feels so nice when you struggle...” I ignored what the dragon was saying. “You know not only are you good at hiding, but you taste amazing! I couldn't get enough of you! I even considered just tasting you and spitting you back out after a while. However that would deny me the absolute best part.” I felt my world shift a bit and knew that the dragon had sat down. “When you finally went down; it was almost as if a comforting tremor spread across my whole body. And when you finally got inside...”, Joseph paused. “Nothing has ever satisfied my hunger like this before. I'm not hungry anymore...” I closed my flashlight; not having heard a single word the dragon had said. “Rest well Samantha. I would love to talk to you properly in the morning.”
I couldn't respond. What was that supposed to mean? I didn't have a single clue and honestly I didn't want to expend the effort to find out. I slung my backpack back onto my back and snuggled up to the strangely comfortable flesh of the dragon's stomach walls. Against all reason, I managed to fall asleep in the dark, humid confines of the creature's stomach.
When I awoke, I was staring into the starry sky through a cracked glass ceiling. There was a drape over me and even a pillow. However, I knew that my mattress wasn't actually a mattress since it seemed to move ever so slightly. I stood up, but all I could see was dark, vibrating shadows. “Wait a minute”, I said criticisingly. I turned around and saw Joseph's massive wings rested against his back and the almost peaceful sound of his breathing. He was asleep. “I'm still alive...”, I told myself. He was keeping me warm since he had placed me on his back and his tail rested on his right leg; its constant wagging dance having stopped while its owner slept. I noticed that we were inside of a decrepit football stadium. That would explain the glass ceiling. I was thirsty, hungry, but most of all exhausted. I pulled the covers back over myself and leaned down onto the pillow. Despite the roughness from Joseph's scales, the warmth they gave disspelled the discomfort without much difficulty. I closed my eyes, smiled and drifted off.
I had survived another day. I was a very lucky woman...
The first story I've written containing an anthro dragon. It is also my most viewed on Deviantart.
