Kit slammed the door to his room and slumped down onto his bed, exhausted. "Can't I even catch a break? I finished the report, and it's all ready exactly the way you wanted it and now you're going to tell me it the wrong report. ARRGH.", the teenage roocoon muttered to himself.
The 8th grader had been having a rough run at school with the well-known and despised social studies teacher who had a reputation for picking on bright students. And so Kyle laid out on his bed, dejected, trying not to relive the public dismanting of a month and half of work the belligerent ox of a teacher rejected out of hand. The roocoon laid back, eyes closed, fighting the old urge to cry that had left him with an lasting nickname in grade school when his paws bumped into a solid but soft object. His eyes flicked open and a half smile flitted across his muzzle, as he let out a soft whisper, 'Bright Heart.."
Of course, the boy had put most of his toys away, plush animals being totally inappropriate for a 13 year old, but the old purple raccoon had stayed. He was Kyle's hero and even the fear of appearances couldn't bring the half-raccoon hybrid to hide his oldest toy. Even now staring at the plush was relaxing him - washing away the stress of the day. The half smile grew into a real smile as he continued to stare at the plush...he could almost hear the raccoon’s comforting voice in his head.
“Just relax, Scout. I can solve this problem, if you trust me.”, came the soft whisper in his head.
Kyle stood up, holding Bright Heart up, feeling his head nod softly. A shiver ran through him and his ears and paws began to tingle - a soft warmth, pleasant but also a bit dull filling them. Kyle was too busy staring at the purple raccoon to see soft purple fur crawling over his own arms, or face or even his tail. The teen just stared up at his plush, focused on the smiling face of his childhood hero.
“That’s it Scout. Relax, enjoy. They’ll never hurt you again.”
Kyle nodded softly...his shirt had separated into an open dark blue button down shirt...familiar from his time in the Cub Scouts in elementary. His exposed stomach tingled, the tan fur being replaced with a light purple as a heart made up of cub scout style badges manifested on his stomach.
“That’s right Scout Heart. Trust me...it’ll all be taken care of soon. Everything will be better. You’ll see. Besides...I always wanted a little brother...”
