Cell shaded definitely looks better in this situation, but that may not be because of the style of shading itself. The differences in your shading of these two images are not a difference between cell or soft. It looks like, in the soft shading, it is an entirely different light source. Her face is all dark and shading in ways that would not happen in nature. The actual placing of the cell shading is correct, whereas the soft is very different. Normally, to soft shade an image, you merely take the cell shaded variation and
"soften" where it blends into normal coloration. It does not mean to add entirely different shading. Another example, in the cell shaded shirt, the shading looks correct from the light source. The rounded shading in the soft shade makes her look like she has a very large, round stomach.
Basically, these two images are an unfair representation of either type of shading because they are not equivalent in the shading amount, light source, or location. If you would like to ask this question again, the only difference should be the SHADING, not the shading and the light source, etc.
