Hmm. Don't know if you're into science fiction/fantasy books or not, but "There Will Be Dragons" by John Ringo has some interesting aspects... primarily the loss of almost all the advanced technology in the beginning of the novel, and how in the aftermath the military is set up. Quite a bit of it involves modeling their new army after the Roman legions.

And this comment was way longer than I expected it to be...

TWBD is also, by the way, available for free, via the Baen Free Library. No membership, signup, or other action needed to get unencrypted access to it (and other stories).

Mind you, the Library is like a digital crack dealer. The first hit's always free...

There are a lot of great shirts there. It's a shame An Tir is so bloody far from Northshield I saw a lot of them that I am sure would sell well here too. I may have to order a few for Christmas or Birthday presents.
