Aw, thanks! Normally I don't like alicorns either, but I was inspired by the wedding episode to try to make one that wasn't too mary sue-ish. The "princess" bit I've explained as such: her subjects eventually moved on and forgot about her, but she keeps the title for memory's sake and in case she really needs to throw her weight around ("I'm Princess Aurora of yadda yadda you get the idea" :P)

You've got a good idea of the balance of power going on in Equestria :3 Not to mention the northernmost parts haven't been shown so she could easily be a former ruler of the north.
