Cobalt Kimera, in his newly redesigned base form, shows off one of his many magical tools: pencils that manipulate reality. Right now he's just drawing lines in thin air, but if he were to, say, draw you in his sketch pad with long horns, you would actually grow them.

That's the thing, "life" as in a metaphorical, imaginative context. In Cobalt's reality, he can use his drawings to make life imitate art, literally. It's the step beyond the imaginative process. A good writer can make real people care about fictional people as if they are real people, but that doesn't make them real people.
