There are great many types of spiritual beings back in where Kiro's from. The two zangooses represent what would be the equivalent for air elementals in common fantasy, the wind folk, tuulenväki. More specifically, they are examples of "ironbound" spirits that are fused with a weapon during the forging. These two, Aethere and Voluntas, were wielded by one of Kiro's ancestors and have, after 700 years, found and chosen their new "owner".
Wind folk are, by nature, playful and adventurous, as well as unpredictable and terrifyingly strong, strongest of the four folks. Although it depends both on the shaman and the spirit being called, wind folk are generally considered the most difficult to form a pact with, as they are prone to refuse, and sometimes, attack the summoner.

More blah blah on the "Hoenn" and shamanism concept. Carry on.

Mana: But they are so much fun to have with you when they do want to hang out. I love these to so much, and you should have seen the pranks we pulled at school.
Sara: And here I thought the Swift sisters and I were trouble. *facepalm*
(Man they look great. Truely awesome work again with spirits.)
