When I was a kid I desperately wanted a game where I could play Zelda. But in the 3D games when she actually started to get characterization, she's pretty constantly turned out to be uninteresting and flat, so bleh. Only the Zeldas in Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks are actually charming and likeable characters.
Why can't they do it right?
And I enjoyed Phantom Hourglass, but I was rather annoyed that you had...hey! Zelda as a pirate captain! Fuck yeah! I'll bet she'll kick a--no, wait. Apparently she'll just sit and wait for you to rescue her. Really game? REALLY??
At least Spirit Tracks was an improvement....

I haven't played those two yet, never had the game system for 'em ^ ^;; Though IIRC Majora's Mask is 3D and I absolutely SUCK at those....

There were actually two games on the CD-i where you played as Zelda. My understanding is that they weren't good. At all.
