Specifically the guardian of abused and/or kidnapped kids.
Been watching too many news reports I guess... anyway this overly large creature lives in another plane parallel to ours and watches out for kids. It senses and seeks out children who are both scared and tortured. It'll only approach the kids when they are alone and their tormentors are away where it'll then talk the child into traveling with it. When it appears in our plane of existence the sound around it changes. It's like the air becomes water where everything sounds muted and a tad echoy. The natural sounds the creature gives off sounds like a bass octave hum with slurping sucking noises. In our plane these sounds get effected by the muting but it goes normal in its own plane. It tends to move very slowly as it has no need to run nor rush. When it "talks" it too is slow in speech like that of someone talking in a calming voice to reassure another. Its "speech" is not exactly telepathy since it is not speaking through the mind. It's more of talking using the air making whatever it says able to be over heard and the volume fluctuating. It talks in a higher pitch then its humming but nothing higher then a tenner. Its forelimb paws are double jointed acting like a long fingered hand with a fully functional opposable thumb. Even though it is fully healthy it has the appearance of a sickly dog with patches of fur missing in areas. Short fur is a dark grey while thick fluffy fur is black. Most of the skin that shows through is black but the tongue, forelimbs, and tail the skin is white with three black rings. The ring in the eye can be any color.
Its main diet is on memories. If a child rejects the help of the Guardian it will loose their memory of the creature ever meeting the child. If the child travels with it then the child will loose all of its precious memories to live happily and carefree with the creature. The creature will provide the children with food and basic care as the children play amongst the others. But a child can't live there forever. After all their memories are completely gone the Guardian will devour the kid as the child is blissfully unaware of its new fate. From time to time though a child can escape the creature but with some of their memory gone forever.
It was actually a pretty cool dream... Rofl since the dream focused on the "rescuing" part the most.

I totally like this kitsune oxo I created a critter similar but was in the vein of a bugbear, would ask the kids whats wrong and if the child asked to leave this place he would ask 'Would you like it to end?' If the child said yes he used 'terror' as a weapon against the transgressor and the child would be marked for life as a 'child of fear'. I like the idea of feeding of a childs memories though
Idk it was very weird... like when they would bring the kids over to the other plane it was like nothing had ever happened to them. All was right in the world and they'd skip around and giggle. It was very surreal and creepy in a way while this horrendously scary looking creature would just sit there and watch... but even though in was sinister in its own fashion it gave off the sense of comfort and belonging. Almost like they don't even notice how grotesque it is. At least that what the scene would feel like... but since it's a dream you knew like... everything about it and what had happened to the children. D:
Wouldn't it be creepier if the creature was formless? Changing from a misty state to a form the child trusted? The mother who nurtured it, the father who took his son to play ball, the elderly grandparents who loved them very much. But yes, as a dreamer you know everything as it unfolds and it has this strange vibe from it, its a wonderful thing though this feeling of a strange vibe you cannot place.
Last time I had a vivid dream of 'critters' it was mostly a apocalyptic dream where everything I wrote of as a child became more fleshed out. A creature with no skin, only muscle, bone, and twisted chutes of metal forming in a quadruped like form slaughtering everything in its path with both bone and metal tusk. Another was a metalic spider like creature covered in tubing flowing with black oil that dripped from its fangs and its webbing was pure razor wire cutting though everything it touched.

Last time I had a vivid dream of 'critters' it was mostly a apocalyptic dream where everything I wrote of as a child became more fleshed out. A creature with no skin, only muscle, bone, and twisted chutes of metal forming in a quadruped like form slaughtering everything in its path with both bone and metal tusk. Another was a metalic spider like creature covered in tubing flowing with black oil that dripped from its fangs and its webbing was pure razor wire cutting though everything it touched.

Yeah... normally if it's a new critter I've never seen before the running theme in my dreams is either a terror that is either actually a nice critter or it makes people think it's alright..... oooooooooorrrr the other theme is a cute innocent creature is actually something very deadly. Such as the reoccurring nightmare I had when I was little... of a cute fluffy thing on my bed but every time I tried to touch it, which I was constantly compelled to do, something with teeth lashed out coming from my bedroom door.
Buuuuut my most detailed dream was that of a board game. It was complicated but once you knew how to play it it was very simple... if boring. XD When I woke up I talking about it a bit but then forgot completely what the board game looked like or how it was played. Soooo now I can't just go and make it and have others play it. XD Fail at being an inventor lulz.

I've never dreamed of nice looking critters by most peoples thoughts, mostly things of hellish origins that are manifestation of repressed ideas or something. I've told a psych when I was younger and he told me not to talk about it again oxo I now understand why, and now that I write these things now have names and places to exist in!
My most detailed dream would have to be running through the ruins of a mansion like complex I had dreamed of before being chased by small hunched over critters that gibbered endlessly until I fell into utter darkness and woke up coughing and sweating and generating a lot of heat, someone said it could be my sleeping problems but either way I woke up kinda disturbed and in the mood to sit in the dark and write.
