This is the penultimate piece in the suite. 'Memories gone by' shows a oerson at an old age, looking back throughout their life, looking at eveything that has happend with delight before moving onto the next stage.
The thought behind this piece was to have one that summed up the persons life, showing the different parts throughout, such as hering parts of the other pieces woven into the music.
