Posted this on DA and forgot to post it over here. :p This is suppose to look "messy" or "chalky", no inks were used and I went especially light on most of the colors on purpose. They're spirits, after all! Now for my random emotional drabble to go along with the picture. Just my little take on what might have happened after the horrible scene with the hyenas. :p

The heat and smoke from the fire made it impossible to breath, countless fangs tore and ripped at his flesh. The world spun with a frenzy of fur, flames and blood. Then the laughter somehow faded and the last thing he saw were the blurred images of Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. His former "friends", looming over him like vultures. Then darkness. The pain stopped, but smoke still surrounded him and he could still feel the fire even though he couldn't see it. He was falling, at least it felt like he was falling...in a downward spiral through the smoke. But then everything around him came to a standstill, not even the smoke moved. But he was moving...slowly, he was moving back up.
Voices?
"Monster."
"Why is he here?"
To the flames he went and so he should stay!"
"There is nothing to judge here. His crimes are too unspeakable!
Scar opened his eyes slowly, everything around him looked surreal. Through the clouds of smoke were dim lights, stars? They sparked with each voice that echoed from them. Had he come face to face with the Great Kings of the Past?
"He is here because one whom he wronged wanted it so." came another voice, deep and powerful. "It is up to him to decide his fate."
Scar's eyes moved back and forth, he could hear the voices but see no one...only stars. Finally, a warm light swirled through the darkness, slowly taking on the outline of a lion. Intense golden orange eyes shone down on him as if searching his very soul.
"Welcome, brother...." Mufasa's voice sent Scar into an instant cower. Maybe this was all a nightmare. A horrible nightmare.
He struggled to find his voice, "Mu...Mufasa..." he stuttered, if this wasn't a dream then it could only mean one thing, "...am...I...?"
"Yes." Mufasa's face seemed stern and serious, as he so often looked. But his eyes were judging and it was hard to tell if it was hatred or sadness that burned within them.
There was a silence as reality sunk in for Scar.
"You don't deserve to be here." Mufasa spoke almost coldly, "You were no Great King. You betrayed your family. You destroyed everything. And what you did to my son, to my Simba..." his voice raised at that but he paused as Scar shrunk lower and lower with each word.
"I-I'm sorry," he pleaded, not expecting Mufasa to believe him.
"I know you are." Mufasa said simply. "And that's why you're here." his eyes no longer seemed as stern, but seemed to hold a wisdom beyond Scar's understanding. "I kept the promise I made to you when we were little...I've watched over you every day. I've seen the horrible things you've done..." he paused "and I've seen the way your soul has cried."
Scar couldn't find his breath as Mufasa spoke. His chest heaved but in his new state of being he could find no tears to release the pain.
Mufasa's spirit circled him and a blurred paw washed over the left side of his face, erasing an old mark...erasing a scar.
"You are forgiven, Taka."
