"No. L-L-L-Le-Le-Le-Le-Let me explain. No. You don't understand. No! I didn't mean for... No, No! Look, I m sorry I called you... No! NOO!"
The roaring fire and the manic laughter from the hyenas quickly drowned out the cries and screams from any onlookers. Likewise the smoke hid them all and as the clan fell on the lion, three hyenas in particular walked slower towards the scene. It was almost as if they were waiting for the rest to do the dirty work.
Shenzi led the way for the other two, safely guiding them through the flames. Then she came to a sharp stop as her eyes fell on the violence. She assumed it would have been all over at this point, but her smirk faded as two piercing green eyes locked onto her own. Hyenas swarmed over the lion and it seemed as if he'd given up the fight. The bloodshed was immense and the clan was in a frenzy, trying to get at as much as they could before the flames became too unbearable.
"Traitor," Banzai muttered as he came to stand next to Shenzi, but his voice faded as his gaze drifted to his former friend.
Ed looked at his two companions in confusion. Weren't they going to join in the feast? Food? Wait. Wasn't Scar their friend? Wait, that's right. He betrayed them. Food! Wait. Friend? Food. Friend. Food. Friend. ?!?!
Scar was slipping in and out of consciousness; his vision blurred...would he see Mufasa soon? Was there any chance of redemption...forgiveness for his sins? Was any of it worth it...did any of it matter anymore. With his last ounce of strength he stretched his paw out towards the trio, as if in a last desperate plea. They were, after all, the closest things to friends that he'd ever had...at least at one point in time. Why didn't they listen, let him explain? His mouth hung open in ragged gasps as he choked on his own blood, "...please...."
Shenzi took a step back, almost frightened. For an instant she didn't see Scar anymore. She didn't see the lion that had used and betrayed them, the lion she'd come to hate. Instead she saw the awkward little cub that had helped her all those years ago. The only lion she had ever trusted. The only lion she had ever dared to call friend.
"Taka...." she whispered through the noise; lowered her gaze as the light left his eyes. "I'm sorry."

Alright...I think this is the most violent, and utterly friggin depressing, thing I've ever drawn or written. D: You can debate all you like on the question of the hyenas feeling any remorse or not but I felt like exploring that theory anyway. In my fan fiction Shenzi is the first hyena Taka meets and he helps her out as a cub so that explains that in case you were wondering. Also in a way, this is a follow up to "Going Down in Flames", as seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7683324/
PS: I dunno if this needs a mature warning or not...feh. XD If someone's that offended then I'll slap one on, just lemme know. I don't think it's THAT bad...or is it? lol o_O

Yeah, I think it's just as bad...if not worse...than the stampede, if only for the fact that I feel it was even more violent. For Mufasa, at least, I think things would have been all over fast...a fall that high, I think we would have been out like a light when he hit the ground. Where as Scar was literally eaten, by the only creatures he may have ever considered "friends", that would have been slow and agonizing in more ways than one. The sad irony is, both Mufasa and Scar were betrayed...Mufasa by his brother, Scar by his allies.
Sometimes I think I over-think this stuff, but it's SO much fun and it's a nice distraction from my daily stresses. XD

Oh yeah, I know. XD I mentioned that in the story there too, in Shenzi's thoughts. I always felt his words were said in panic though, he threw the blame on them to try and save himself. He betrayed them, they turned on him. I think the hyenas had lost their trust and patience with Scar before all this though, that was just the final straw. Still a violent and sad way to go. :\
Wow, thank you very much...I've never really considered myself a writer, never felt it was one of my strong points but I enjoy coming up with fan fictions/short stories. I have a full length fan fic in the works but it's really messy right now (I tend to write out scenes at a time, often to go with a picture) I have several more I haven't yet posted to FA, been using DA more often than not these days. Thanks again for the comment, really appreciate it!
