The clay I'm using is from Chavant. It's the same stuff that car designers use to make clay models, and it's really hard. You have to heat it to at least 120 degrees before it acts like modeling clay. Not really what you'd normally use for this, but we had some laying around, so why not.

Chavant is the ideal clay to use for sculptures. You could also use Monster clay but its even harder and requires the use of Wax pens "I use both clays".. The bad part about sculpting in a oil based clay is it will never harden and you will need to make a negative mold to create a mold to pour a resin material in.
