Shifting Stratum: The First Stratum
Well, making pretty good progress designing the new TF themed board game. Got most of the rules down, events pretty much taken care of, and just working on designing the Order and Chaos Cards.
This is the first of five Stratum in the board game, it's official name is Forest Walk. I already loaded up the excel updraft version into scraps, but now thanks to
kitsunekit we have an actual board! KK is awesome like that.
So anyway, will give a bit more explanation of this board. There's only a few branching paths in this one, and I'll take the time to start them. Near the start, you can either take the normal route, or take a short cut through the cave. The cave is less spaces overall but it has more Event Squares. Event Squares are the orange squares on the board. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad, but if a route is shorter and full of event squares, well you can probably expect some surprises along the way. Anyway, the normal route also has a second branching path in it, that you may notice, the small hole with two Bonus Spaces in it. That's a path that can only be taken by a player who's been reduced in size. Not just a little reduction though, nothing bigger than a mouse is going to be able to squeeze through there.
Next up, we have multiple branching paths to the end. The motains are the shortest route, but unless you have certain special abilities you'll move at half your die roll rounded up while crossing the mountain, meaning only a maximum of three spaces per turn, so it may be faster to go around. Having said that, every route has its upsides and downsides here. The second shortest route is through the treetops, but without possessing a certain form you may not be able to find that route let alone explore it. Other than that, the shortest route would be to wade through knee deep water. Naturally, if it's more than knee deep to you, then that route may not be the best either, leaving you only the forest floor and the Northern Trail as viable routes to the finish.
Now what do the event squares do? Well, that is a surprise. After the story is eventually over, I may post up a general rules document with alle vents, cards, and shop items, but for now I think that's enough information.
I'm almost done with preparation, I just need to get the Orde rand Chaos cards finished and do a few shops.
Oh a quick key to figure out what's what.
Blank Squares, are just that, blank. Nothing happens.
Orange are event squares that only trigger when a player lands on them.
O are Order Cards, these are cards you can save for later.
C, Chaos Cards that are put in play as soon as they are drawn.
The stars are your Bonus Squares, landing on those will net you some extra points to spend at shops and determine your turn order in future stratum.
The small houses with $ are shops, where you can spend those points on items.
Lastly W, the W squares are when you draw Wild Cards. Wild Cards are special in that instead of affecting the player who drew it, Wild Cards affect all players simultaneously. Think of them as instant game changers.
Oh dear, I seem to have punned there, and not on purpose at all.
Anyway, I'll be posting a journal for sign ups soon to determine the players for the CYOA story. I think the fairest thing might be to do a raffle, basically rather than having sign up first come first serve, open sign ups, wait a couple days, and then draw names out of a hat or something.
Update: Sign ups have started. See: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3388152/
