As far as I can tell, simply delineating the border between the hoof proper and the limb would solve that problem. MLP legs are essentially monocolour, whereas real equine legs aren't.
Depending on the specifics of the costume as a whole, it might also be an idea to include fluffy fetlocks, like those of a Shire horse.
