Harlin reference sheet
So after two or so months of daily idea spam and general nonsense we finally finished this bigass ref! normally i couldn't care less about these sorts of things but there was a massive amount of work in getting all this together so If you actually read all this and the giant description I will love you forever. If you actually take time to comment after reading said long ass description my love of you will be doubled forever XD
This was a collaborative effort between AlfaFilly and myself. She drew kid and adult Harlin as well as the nifty little detail shots there in the middle. While we both came up with all the ideas and concepts, she was the one that put everything together because, let's face it, I can't write my way out of a paper bag!

Now, to clear things up before going further, Harlin is not canon. All this means is that Harlin does not "really exist" in the Diabolus universe. He's pretty much just made for the funzies and giggles. Whether or not he'll be made canon in the future we don't know. If anything, you can imagine him as existing in an alternative universe or something. TTLY CANNON NOW
BEWARE. EXTENDED CHARACTER INFORMATION AHEAD. IT IS LONG AND SUPER DETAILED AND TL;DR. INFO IS ALL EXTRA. MOST RELEVANT INFO IS ON REFERENCE ITSELF.
>Picard:
As said in the ref, "Picard" is actually Harlin's tail. It is not determined whether or not Picard actually exists, is merely a voice in Harlin's head, or is an alternate personality of Harlin himself. Whatever it is, Picard has a firm control on Harlin. Picard has no assigned gender. Often Harlin will not even audibly talk to Picard, but just listen and do as it instructs. He will not listen to everything it says, but considering the majority of what it asks are not dangerous to him or others, Harlin does not typically give it a second thought. Picard's instructions can range from simple orders like "Go pick that thing up." to "Put on that fancy maid outfit."
Harlin does consider Picard to be his friend, even if their relationship is a confusing one. Picard does not truly want harm to come to Harlin; at least nothing past a simple slap on the wrist. It is not shy to punishing Harlin for disbeying it, though. Occassionally it will punish him forcefully (such as a light smack. Yes. His own tail will hit him.) to just generic time-outs. Picard can be very dominate over Harlin which leads to extreme jealousy between it and the people Harlin is around.
Baby/Toddler
Baby Harlin is an ordinary baby for the most part. He has a tendancy to whine and cry easily, especially when he's afraid. He is very playful around his parents and those that spend a lot of time with him, but among the lesser-known people he is very shy. Picard exists somewhere along this point as well, though the personality has not yet been established so it does not try to manipulate him.
Toddler Harlin carries on with this, but with his addition to talking. Though he does not say much (except to his parents) he is able to communiticate things somewhat more clearly. This includes his slip of mentioning Picard's existence to Linda and Harlie. They do not think much of it, simply assuming he has an imaginary friend, like most children. He also developed his early love for tables at this age. How this started is uncertain, but likely a mixture of his grandmother's waitressing and his mother constantly taking him to Jeeves' restaurant and sitting at the tables.
Kid:
Kid Harlin, no longer being babied by his parents, craves attention a lot more than before. He often may blow things out of proportion, such as getting hurt and acting as if he is about to die. At this age Picard becomes a more prominent aspect of his life, its voice being much more apparent with a settled personality. This is the age when Picard begins to tell Harlin to do bad or strange things. The signs of his mental disorder are not yet seen by his parents, or if so are quickly denied or excused as just him growing up.
Teenager:
Teen Harlin is basically where all hell breaks loose. With his rise in hormones and typical dramatic teenage behavior starting to show, Harlin begins to behave in many improper and worrisome ways. Picard becomes even more prominent and orders him around a large portion of the time. Most things it suggests are more often than not complied with by Harlin. His obsession with tables reaches a more obvious appearance at this time, causing his parents to worry about his mental state. It is around this time that he is officially diagnosed with some form of "paranoid schizophrenia" and put on medication to treat his illness.
While on his medication, Harlin becomes incredibly apathetic, showing little to no emotion. He lacks interests in anything (including his beloved tables) while in his drugged state and Picard talks to him a lot less. Because of this, Harlin often chooses to avoid taking his medication. When he is off his meds, his episodes come out twice as bad. Picard suggests for him to do more things and Harlin himself does more things that he would not typically do; much to the misfortune of those around him who fall victim to his antics.
The stress of dealing with his illness and symptoms causes the relationship between him and his parents to be a rocky one. Harlie is stressed by the situation most of all and may be quick to argue with Harlin when he acts out or doesn't listen. Linda tries to treat the issue as if it is not a big deal, but with each worsened episode her worry for him grows. She is not resistant to giving Harlin strict warnings or outright forbidding him from doing things. While the relationship with them is not the friendliest at all times, Harlin still can't live without them and frequently goes to them for talks or to cuddle.
This is also the time when Harlin is prone to running away quite frequently. The littlest of insults will send him into emotional turmoil. More-often he runs away as a result of his parents arguing and telling him what to do. His manner of running away is very subtle, consisting of him only "going away" to a couple floors down in the living building or across the street. He may be gone for as little as 15 minutes to up to a couple hours before he gets frightened and comes running back to his parents to apologize.
Adult:
With his lessened hormones and regular medicine intake, Adult Harlin has calmed a good deal since his teen years. He is not quite as spontaneous or gets into as much trouble, but that doesn't make him perfect. He still will revert back to his "special" ways, doing strange and awkward things to the people around him. The time between episodes is merely lengthened. He still hears Picard on a regular basis and still gets in trouble or put into conflicts because of it. Picard is just not quite as overbearing as it used to be. He also still has his love for tables (and Morgan) but it is not quite in the "weird" factor as much anymore.
Occupation/Morgan:
Harlin works as a Busboy at Jeeves' restaurant. As a young child, Harlin grew a fascination and near-obsession with tables and dreams of growing up to clean and care for them. This, of course, has come true to a degree and Harlin has little disproval with his job. He is in charge of cleaning the tables off after guests along with washing the tables cloths after work and doing other janitorial-type of work. He is not particularly his happiest doing non-table related chores and works a lot less diligently, which Jeeves has to get onto him about quite often.
He does not say much to anyone at the restaurant, neither to his boss or the customers. He has, however, found a friend. Only problem is said friend is a table. Similarly with Picard, Harlin has found joy in inanimate objects. Unlike Picard, Morgan does not talk to him, yet somehow he believes it is alive. A lonely little table in the corner, it is not uncommon for Harlin to be found spending extra cleaning time around it or sitting at it during his breaks. His fascination with the object can be rather strange and disturbing to others who are aware, as the relationship is almost like that of a crush. Morgan also has no assigned gender.
Picard openly dislikes Morgan and Harlin's "relationship" and can easily be said to be jealous. It is not uncommon for Picard to trick Harlin into doing things that would result in his "table privilages" being taken away for the sake of getting him away from Morgan. When it comes to the table, Harlin will not listen to a lot of direct orders against it from Picard, which can frustrate it.
Other:
>Gender Confusion. On top of all of the rest of Harlin's problems, he also is slightly gender confused. Though he is aware he is male, because he is more "feminine" in appearance, he often gets mistaken for a girl. This is more common in his younger years, especially as a baby and child. He is mistaken so much for it that he will occasionally answer to being called a girl and not think much of it. It begins to bother him as a teen the most and upsets him. It doesn't help that people like Marty taunt him about it on a regular basis.
>Squirrel. As a young child Harlin had a best friend who was aSquirrel octopus. However, the two were swiftly seperated. Ever since Harlin has not forgotten it and regularly gets upset if he sees a picture or live octopus or anything that reminds him of it.
>Art and Collages. Harlin also enjoys crafting and drawing things as gifts for others. Though his artistic talents are not that great, he continues to do it even into adulthood. Aside from drawing things, he will make collages out of pieces of magazines and other things he finds fitting and give them to his friends, and especially his parents.

Relationships with Other Characters (main):
Harlie - Though Harlie loves his son, he has issues expressing it affectionately. Because of this, young Harlin often tries to earn his father's praise and attention in other ways, such as telling him of his accomplishments or giving him hugs directly (which Harlie will respond to). He continues doing this in some ways as an adult. Harlin will listen to his father's orders in most cases, especially as a child, but a lot of times Harlie lacks the intimidation factor and Harlin will end up not taking his discipline seriously.
Linda - Linda is an obsessive mother who tracks her son's progress in life every step of the way, documenting it in photo albums, journals, video logs, and whatever else. As a child Harlin enjoys this attention. He also especially enjoys the affection his mother gives to him on a constant basis. The older he gets, however, his tolerance level for her overbearing loves grows thinner. While he does still like hugs and cuddles, sometimes it can be a bit excessive. He listens and obeys her more readily than his father, as Linda intimates him a lot more.
Marty - Harlin became fascinated at Marty early in life due to his mother's obsession with him. As he aged his view of Marty has become conflicted since he is unsure whether to like the leading blacorite or not. With Linda's love for him and Harlie's distrust, Harlin is not sure what to truly make of Marty. As a result he gets quite uneasy and just a bit overly twitchy around him. His mood varies around him, some days fearing him and others adoring him.
Quinn - As a child Harlin enjoys playing games and cuddling with the little DJ as if he were a big stuffed animal. This persists into his older years, though he plays games less with Quinn as an adult since he is too busy with other life things. He still picks him up and carries him often though.
Jeeves - Harlin is a little fearful/nervous of Jeeves, seeing him as a fancy authoritive figure. When he works as a busboy at Jeeves' restaurant this proceeds to a higher degree. He rarely talks to him, often just listening and following orders. Yet, he is secretly obsessed with Jeeves' mustache marking and admires it from afar. Sometimes rather creepily by staring at it when Jeeves talks to him.
Charlotte/Charlie- Young Harlin likes Charlie a good deal for her sweet and caring attitude. Because she treats him so nicely (particularly not caring about his strange colorations), he can't help but like her back. Young preteen to older teen Harlin, however, began to hold a serious grudge on the young woman for "stealing his daddy". In other words, for liking Harlie and "taking him" from his mother Linda (despite that Harlie and Linda do not have feelings for one another). He holds this grudge for quite awhile until eventually getting over it as an adult. He still has an inner dislike for that aspect of her, but returns to liking her again.
Preacher - Feeling sorry for the young Harlin, Preacher often tries to act as a big brother type of figure toward him. Harlin is somewhat aware of this and, although appreciative, is also mildly afraid of the man because of his hobby of fighting/wrestling. If Harlin happens to watch any sort of fight he will become incredibly frightened.
Enrik - Harlin has an extreme paranoia that Enrik is always dead when he is in fact just sleeping. Because of this he will often sneak up and poke the man awake just to make sure he's alive. If poking does not work, he may forcefully drag him around. A lot of times he may do "poke and runs" where he will pry the man awake and then run away in fear. The maintanence man's "trippy" way of speaking scares Harlin often and he will freak out if he starts talking about it.
Ginny - Because Ginny is often so talkative, loud, and just sort of obnoxious, Harlin can only take her in small doses (like most others). As a child, especially an infant, he will downright cry if she gets too hyperactive around him.
