This is an idea I've had kicking around in my head for a while, and I finally took the plunge and got it drawn. It's a "Character Select" screen of all of my currently existing OCs for a fictional fighting game. That said, I would totally play it. And if anyone wanted to make up moves and/or finishers for the characters down in the comments, feel completely free to do so. Questions are welcome as well.
Available characters are Patrick Altair, Lt. Arrow Quincy Vershaft, Arrow, Luminari-Arrow, Thenyr Nontdargo, Kawheek, Nathan, Fenrir-Nathan, Melody Shebesta, and Richard Gallian.
So this looks like this'll be a fight between Thenyr and Fenrir-Nate. I'd put my money on Thenyr here, myself. He's far more combat trained, and the Kawheek stage should definitely play more to his strengths anyways...

You mentioned that Nate is stuck in a "failure-spiral" in that he "doesn't like being beaten, never gives up, and doesn't know when to quit". I had to deal with children at a chess camp just like that, many of us played to lose to let the children feel better about themselves for beating college students- that and they threw temper tantrums when they didn't win. So with my obvious wolf bias notwithstanding, I would say let him win a match just to boost his self-esteem
