I drew this in reference to 9/11. It's a quick sketch of Charlie the mongoose. He's a character who's had his life severely damaged by what happened in '01.
I know most people depict mournful, solemn images for this sort of thing. But I wanted to draw and capture an expression that depicts the initial horror of actually seeing it. That day was probably the only time I experienced true horror, watching the second plane hit from a window on 32nd street. I stayed till the first tower collapsed, and then we evacuated and my mom and me made a journey to uptown Manhattan. I thank god that I lost no one that day, but I'll never forget how it felt to watch all of that happen. That's what I was trying to capture with Charlie here. Maybe he did lose someone.
