one would think i do productive things on my weekends.
I hang out with friends and do crazy art products that in the end look pretty epic.

This week's art project?
A NyanCat Birthday cake, with fondant scupting, rainbow insides and a rainbow made of hard candy. We did not follow the 8bit/16bit original design, but some fanart/anime rendition. Hence the cuteness.

The cake was confetti cake that we mixed food coloring into seven different colors.
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Aqua/light blue, blue, and Purple.
We had one sheet cake and two round cakes, shaped and shaved. Scraps were used for the tail and paws.


The icing is hand pulled marshmellow fondant. It was like playdough.
Grey fur= two drops black gel food coloring, one drop blue
pink icing= one drop red gel food coloring
crust= two drops yellow, one half drop of red gel (like, a finger print)
spinkles= two drops blue, two drops pink
tongue= three drops pink, one drop red
these colors were intense, and really concetrated.

One the cake was carved and assembled, we applied the poptart crust, then the pink icing. NyanCat's head, then his tail. Details like his ears, tongue and sprinkles were added. His face was drawn on with black cherry cake pens.

Buttercream icing works like glue and only needed to be applied where the fondant was slipping, like the corners of the poptart and the icing. Feet were added lastly because we were very tired.

The rainbow was molten sugar dyed red, orange, yellow, green. blue and purple/violet. Red through Yellow are cherry flavored. Green is Vanilla-cherry. Blue and Violet were lime.

My friend did the carving and dying of the cake.
I did the mixing of the fondant, rolling them out, and drawing of details.
Her mother did the hard candy rainbow.

It was very fun. and we started around 2-3 am and finished completely around 6-7 am. Why did we choose those times? because everyone else was asleep and couldn't bother our work. Yup.

first time ever doing cake work. baked and cooked before, but this was a whole nother level. XD
