Why the somber face?

Oh I wasn't really trying to go for somber (though, it is art, if you want to see it as somber that's fine!)- the beard kind of hides the small smile I drew but really, it's a tone of reflection for me :)

Looking back at this 2 years later, I still really love the feel of this piece and the soft coloring job.
