An assignmnent for my character design class, where we were told to design a male, a female, and a creature from the same world. I did this as a rough idea session, with the final works posted when they were done.
As I usually do, I built this series revolving around something I've built/want to build irl, or an alternate character of myself. In this case, it was the raven mask, paired with a garbage bag cape/cloak with scraps of bags and feathers stuck to the outside.
In the world these characters come from, their highly technologically advanced civilization has fallen, and what little survives of their race has fallen into wandering tribes and groups. Some are more resourceful, and have made their equipment out of things they could scavenge from the ruins of society, and these are usually more physically in tune with their abilities. Others keep clothing from their past lives, and weild technology from their past lives as a form of new-age magic. The snake creature to the right has a warped head, which, depending on the viewing angle/the way the head is turned, can give the impression of different faces. Each face has a different effect, from the tusked Forward which also houses the mouth, to the TurnedLeft single eye face, which bends light with its lens to refract light into a laser.
I wanted masks to be a primary feature in all three designs [I positively <3 masks D:]. In this world, these bird-like people lived in tribes, and worshipped the large snake-like creatures to the right as a form of god [namely because they practically destroyed villages whenever they passed through]. When their people rose to the level of cultured civilization, they kept their tribal roots, keeping masks as a design choice for their architecture and other designs, while protecting their post-god snake species. After their civilization fell, they unconsciously fell back into their tribal ways, donning masks again, although having a more symbiotic relationship with the snakes.
