At least there was that one ship that DID heed the titanic. I forgot the name of it. Titanium I think where the watchman was BORN on that fateful day and saved the ship from an iceberg. Also anyone find it creepy that there was a book published a couple years before with the same situation and the ships name was the Titan. Unsinkable ship sunk
'Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan' was published in 1898, fourteen years before. I tried reading it once (it's available online in various places, including Project Gutenberg), but I got bored. The ship sinks around the halfway point of the novel, and the rest is the main character having several adventures, including fighting a polar bear.
Very true. Despite a lack of resources and planning (on White Star's part), Capt. Smith and his crew did a remarkable job saving as many as they did (though evidence has been cited saying Capt Smith may not have been in actual operational command for this particular voyage, as Bruce Ismay may have pulled company rank on him). The Concordia's captain, on the other hand, had much more on hand. He and the liner's owners had completely failed to give his crew a fraction of the training to use the resources they had. Which is to say, they might as well not have had them at all.
That's a tad disrespectful to Captain Edward Smith of RMS Titanic seeing as it was the acting Captain at the time that made the wrong call to full a stern, but I digress. To tell the truth I'd be more incline to loosely compare The Costa Concordia to the SS Andrea Doria ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Andrea_Doria)
The captain of the Concordia is an absolute disgrace for his poor choice of going to the island which wasn't part of the route and for ditching his ship and lied by saying "he fell into a life boat". The poor girl didn't deserve such a fool of a captain and it was truly heart breaking seeing such a beautiful ship become decayed and rusted. Rest in peace Costa Concordia. You will always be the flag ship 🛳️
