Awesome pigeons, yeah!

This has been another glimpse into the secret life of pigeons.

Pigeons are awesome. They are one of the few birds I don't panic around. This guy looks amazing though. I always loved the cocky pigeons that lived around my home in Cali.

We care for many wild birds at the rescue, but we usually ALWAYS have pigeons/doves and I love caring for them. There was a baby this week too who hasn't quite stopped begging for food yet so I had to keep pushing him away from me to encourage him to be more pigeon-like. But man, so adorable.

Aww. Birds are awesome <3 I love watching them. Today I saw the prettiest hawk while I sat in the car. He was just swoopin' around, looking for food. Such pretty plumage.

Not much of a fan of pigeons, considering I live in NYC, but the arting came out good.

Pigeons are ace, my grandad keeps racing ones and there's a pic of me somewhere as a kid holding a baby one looking nervous :P

Not to sound crass but isn't healing a common city pigeon in America about the same as helping a European rabbit in Australia?
They are both technically invasive species...
Not that I don't feel for the suffering animal or wouldn't want to help it myself, I just kinda think like "institutionalized pigeon care, really?"
I guess I'm weird but if I see a squirrel dragging itself by it's front legs across the road I'd rather end it's suffering quickly than prolong it...
Please don't crucify me for thinking that I'll go donate to the local raptor rehab center if you don't yell at me...

I don't run the rescue, dude. I just volunteer there. Considering I know they will not accept babies of other invasive species, I'm sure they have a reason.

Sorry sorry not trying to be a jerk, like I said I totally understand taking care of poor defenseless animals...

psst, they're a food source for peregrine falcons that are nesting and breeding in the city, look up the Peregrine, and you'll find out more. it's a breed of Falcon that specializes in catching other birds, they've been endangered for a while, due to use of a pesticide with DDT in it.
