The stars were twinkling brightly that night, and Dino Pop watched them from her window, absolutely enthralled. Small things like stars and doorstops were incredibly entertaining for small foals like herself, so it was no surprise. She was just imagining that they must be fireflies on her window, and she tried to scare them by tapping on the glass. When that didn't work, she figured they must be awfully brave little bugs. She started making strange noises at the window, knocking her horn on it and tapping her hooves on it a few more times. Her little tirade was interrupted by a clang below her room. Her parents "special room" was down a few floors below hers, and she'd often see them disappear into this room, making clanging, banging and crashing noises for hours on end. Tonight, as she wasn't tired at all, she decided to go see Mommy and Daddy.
She kicked at the crib fence with one hoof at a time; her weak little legs couldn't balance using two. Finally, the gate gave way to her insistent pestering, lowering down and allowing her access to the floor. She hopped down gleefully, excited to surprise her Mommy and Daddy with how late she could stay up.
The stairs had always frightened Dino Pop, but only when she was at the top of them. From the bottom, it looked like fun, and she loved climbing them, but getting down was a different story altogether. She turned her rump to the stairs and started the decent backwards, not looking at the incline.
She started a little when she hit the bottom, trying to shove her hoof through the floor to another step that wasn't there. She turned back around and shook her head in a moment of confusion, then set off to the second set of stairs. Once she'd hit the bottom of this staircase, much in the same way as the last, she singlemindedly made her way to the door where the clanging was coming from.
The door wasn't closed all the way; the two ponies had thought their daughter was fast asleep in her crib. Dino nudged it open a little farther with her little nose and squeezed her pudgy little body into the room. It was dimly lit, the only real light was where her parents were working away diligently on some big doohicky. She was just about to run up to them, a big smile on her face and silly nonsense baby words spilling from her mouth, but a bright blinking light caught her short attention.
She walked toward it, captivated. She wasn't watching where she was walking and stepped on a large sheet of metal. The sound scared her and she squealed, hopping away from the metal piece. Her parents heard her, and rushed over to where she was. Shouts of her name scared the little filly. Mommy and Daddy only shouted when they were mad and were going to put her in time out.
Blindly she ran in the direction of the light, and hid in a small compartment, not bothering to close the door. Her parents were just about to reach her, and she flattened herself against the back wall of the contraption. Her shoulder hit a button and her parents disappeared.
In their place were ferns and long blades of grass. She hopped out of the machine, distracted instantly and wandered around the strange new place. For a few minutes she walked, sniffing colorful flowers and digging at the strange colored dirt.
A large rock tripped her, and she tumbled to the ground. There was a scrape on her front leg and it was already starting to bleed. She started to bawl, knowing her Mommy and Daddy would come make her boo boo go away.
She cried for five minutes before she came to notice her parents hadn't come. No, they weren't even calling her name anymore. She got up, limping a little and walked in the direction of the strange machine. Or at least, what she thought was the right direction. She called out to her Mommy and Daddy, the only two words she knew.
"Mommeee! Daddeeee!"
