The Superballs I remember were rough-ish and black (or perhaps charcoal... or a very dark blue). Mind you, this is in the 60s, when it was first invented. The coloured ones came out later.

Dude... I was born in '63. I'm older than a good portion of the fandom. The term "Greymuzzle" comes to mind.

I remember having one designed like a big glass marble, made of transparent bouncystuff with a colored swirlybit in the middle.

Dang, I loved superballs. I WOULD'VE collected them if I didn't lose them so easily...
(I usually made it a challenge for myself to try to catch it after the least amount of bounces possible, and yeah, that often led to them ending up underneath tables and stuff...I would probably never bounce one outside like Malcom did out of the sheer fear of losing it in the Great Outdoors.)

I'm not sure if I mentioned that my Brother has a Golden Retriever who has made me the center of her Universe as long as I've got a ball in hand. For the Holidays last year I got her a large "Kong" play and chew ball which acts very mch like a big "Super Ball." I had to take the toy away from the dog because I feared that one day a well meaning person might toss the ball from on high where the driveway is located, and the ball would bounce through one of the windows in the kitchen or entryway. It was like playing with a ten pound cannon ball.
