The utter stupidity of terrorism shows so clearly in the 9/11 thing. I'm not an American, so I'm not personally affected by it...but the radio comments bring the full impact of it home in a way that nothing else could. How absolutely senseless...how futile...how many lives needlessly lost...

Quite why this affected the Americans so deeply is a mystery no longer...
