I loved walking around airports as a kid, and I still like it. Except now it's all about the airplanes that USED to be built. For any of my watchers who are unfamiliar with general aviation, most small airplanes you see overhead or parked at your local small airport were built prior to the early 1980s, with a few exceptions. So a stroll around a small airport is a view into a time when small airplanes were built by the masses. General Aviation aircraft are still built, but they're very expensive($175,000 at the low end). A 50-year-old airplane that's perfectly airworthy can be bought for the price of an expensive car.
A supersonic business jet is a cool idea. There are some designs out there for 'em, but no one wants to pay the money something like this. There are some furs in Chucky's society with deep pockets.
Oh, and the term 'touch-and go's' refers to take-off and landing practice in where the pilot lands the plane and immediately takes off again.

didnt they can the concord supersonic bussiness jet just a few years ago?? and i thought there were still people making cheap(ish) micro and twin seat aircraft still or with the dounturn of the econmy has that ground to a halt cuz i still rember burt retan's starship one the first exo-atmo craft made and launched be a privet citzen?
They did, but the Concorde was an airliner, not a business jet. By business jet, I mean privately owned by either a person or business. There are no supersonic business jets in production that I know of, there are designs though. The fastest private production jet you can buy is the Cessna Citation X, which tops out at mach .92. I believe Gulfstream is coming out with something slightly faster, but not supersonic.
The economic downturn certainly doesn't help, but these things are expensive no matter what. If you have serious money to burn, you can buy an old T-38, F-4, or even some Russian MiG models that will go supersonic.
Burt Rutan's Spaceship One is certainly private, but it is also experimental and completely impractical for anything other than research and joyriding.

Well, it's not the fuel. It's the fact that it needs a mother ship to fly it to altitude before it can even launch. I want to see something that can take off, fly into suborbital altitudes, and return and land like an airplane. Now that would really impress me as something practical.
I live practically next door to a military refueling base. Im positive they train new comers all the time as they touch and go all the time. Especially in the rough weather.
Allthough its really cool when a hurrican comes towards florida, thats when the fighters come in to escape the storm.

I have checked out the refuelers when I was a kid, its pretty cool. Got the usual pilots seats up front, but the really cool part was the refuelers seat. Its really tight because they gotta "lay down" in the back seat so they can watch the refueling rod and aim it to the fighters inlet. Must be an amazing veiw!
*sighs* Don't I know it. I've been looking into possibly buying my own airplane for some time, but have come to the conclusion that it will not be before retirement, if even then. Here is one airplane I'd love to own: http://pics.livejournal.com/michel_.....t/pic/0002aq9k
but at $430,000, it is out of the question. There are used ones for a fraction of that price, but the operating costs are incredibly high.
The best option I've found are flying clubs, though I have as yet to find one that included a Diamond DA40.

Best advice I got is to try off small. I don't fly myself, but allways been interested in the small glider types. More or less the "wings" are of that of a typical glider, has an open cockpit, and a small engine.
Still might be as expensive as a new car, but everyone has to start somewhere. :)
As far as used goes, still not a bad idea, as long as you have some mechanical skills and are willing to get some dirt under your fingernails.
