Finally warm enough here to introduce Ares to... grass. And dirt.
He's 5 months now. Pretty soon he won't be an only hedgie-child anymore - we're getting our first two females later this year to start breeding. Archimedes gets to be a little studmuffin. XD

Yeah, there are some things that they're not supposed to have because they can choke on them. Unfortunately a lot of commercial hedgehog foods actually have those ingredients - like nuts/seeds, pieces of dried fruit, etc. It's terrible when something like that happens. :[
yea i know about the headgehogfood.. i had like 8-9 hedgies when i got my first one i thought to give her some of the super expensive hedgie food because it´s made for hedgies.. should work.. and then?! one of the nuts clipped to her palate and she couldnt get it out anymore.. she wanted to eat/drink and couldn´t and i was wondering what was wrong.. i was at the vet and he said "oh there is something suppurative and gave her antibiotica.. next day wasnt any better so i drive to the vet hospital (however to say XD ) and they gave her gas narcosis and looked in her mouth and tried to get that "thing" out of there.. when all was out i knew what it was.. one of the nuts in this stupid food!
so i didnt use that food anymore. i used very small royal canin dry cat food, food insects, frozen mini baby mice, sometimes beef, eggs, aaand so on.
i think it could have been the baby mouse that day.. maybe a bone or something :/

Oops, accidentally didn't respond to this comment. XD
Yeah, food is something so many people don't understand right away. I'm on a hedgehog forum and see a lot of new owners come in feeding either "hedgehog food" or the really crappy cat food. Royal Canin is one of the good ones - I use the kitten version of that for treats for Ares. He's so picky though - he'll basically eat any kind of kibble but nothing else at all. No mealworms/insects, no meat, no fruit/vegetables except watermelon. So pretty much he gets kibble and... for treats, more kibble, lol.
