Annie and Arthur Needle Felted Posable Ponies
Commission for Undercaffinated on dA of her OC ponies, Annie (the black one) and Arthur, her son.
These were fun, especially Arthur with his Appaloosa blanket and little goatee. XD I used a new technique and one new material with them. Their eyes were printed in black and white onto thin fabric, which I used like a coloring book and filled in with colored wool, then stuck the fabric to the faces and firmly felted it on and blended the wool over the top. The point of that is to make it faster and easier to make eyes that match. :) I used Suri alpaca locks for their hair, which is an awesome fiber! Super soft and shiny, and can be styled! These guys are small so their hair didn't really want to stay in place as well, though. XD It's rooted the same way I did Fluttershy's, though with Annie I found that it works better to tie the hair plugs with thread rather than knot them, especially with this alpaca fiber which is very slippery and doesn't stay in a knot very well. They can actually pose pretty well, but they kept falling over without support and I didn't have anything on hand to support them with that wouldn't look really weird in the picture, so they're doing simple poses. I need to work on my pony posing. XD
Materials: Wire armature, polyester batt and core wool base, superfine short fiber merino dress fiber and Suri alpaca hair. Annie has a bit of Huacaya alpaca fiber on her muzzle.
Time taken: Approx. 30 hours each. (Didn't time it, though.)
EDIT: I just noticed the ruler in the first pic is upside down. XD Well, you can still see that Annie is just over 5" tall, and Arthur is just under 4".
