..so in complete un-fun local news, a brand new gift from kraden is pressumed stolen today. ;____:
It upsets me so dang much because it was stolen from just outside the Gloria Jeans cafe/Elsternwick Train Station I work at (up enough of a ramp that I cannot see it from inside the shop) during a 3 hour shift, today; April 3rd, between 6:55 & 11am, Australian time.
......most expensive short-shift ever.. :'CCCC
I still don't really have quite the words to express how much it guts me to have a brand new means of getting to work and personal fitness taken even when it was thick-chain bolted to a heavy-duty metal fence.
I'm at a loss of what other measures I could have taken to secure it's safety (what the heck else could I have done, or could do in the future?), and it was so new I don't even have any photos of me with it, or contents insurance to cover it.
loved & rode it every day.
without it is such a massive inconvenience right now too.
I also know it's a long shot that I will ever see it again, even after having reported it to the police (there were cameras in the area, but I was told the footage wont be able to be obtained for at least 2 weeks.. and even then it might not be clear enough to identify the person, and the longer it takes, the more likely it is to have changed hands etc.)
[LATEST ON THIS STORY]
........on a super sweet turn-around note to the theft, I was recently re-begifted with another new bike from a combined effort of a buncha friends;
jeneara & Seer,
kell,
tinycat,
fuzzibear
Ramirus,
rayliehm,
edge,
kazza &
Kraden again) by way of kazza being TOO DAMN SWEET TO ME AUGH<3, n his idea.. they all pitched together and bought me another to replace it ;_______;
I am so touched by they're generosity.. these guys are far too good to me, and I love them all so damn much.
And the bike, a very DANG smooth ride! (the frame is a bit bigger, like Kraden had initially been worried about with the first one, and indeed he might have been right) and it's STICKED/LOCKED TO HECK NOW. Registered and will be engraved very soon. \|'S omfgh. PEOPLE. <3
THANKYOU SO DAMN MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. HONESTLY I AM BLOWN AWAY BY THIS. ;u; :heart:
[Another Update]
I got a call just yesterday from the the police station the theft was reported with, they were just after the make and model details again, and have the video footage to review now, thought the suspect has not been fully identified as of yet.
I still feel that it is a long shot at getting it back, though I am remaining hopeful for the best outcome.
And.. I shall still be keeping a passive-ear on re-claiming of the other, but have done almost all I can at this point. Mostly wait for either someone to come forward, or the police to turn something up.
In an effort to help in any way that I might be reunited with my two-wheeled love I am asking any/everyone in the greater Melbourne area & surrounds to please contact if you see hear or know any helpful information about it.
My contact again is: carnival.mailz[at]gmail.com
Caulfield Police Station, Victoria: (03)9524 9500
The bike was not just a a ride, but a very sentimental gift also, my gratitude would be unfathomable for any assistance toward it's return anyone can provide.
More detail as to the bikes specifics & model information can be found here: [link]
Other defining features are listed in the image & I have the receipts of purchase with me, if anyone with one does not have these in the area, there is a high chance it is the stolen bicycle.
Thank you to anyone who can help in any way, even if by spread awareness around the area.

Sad to hear carnie. Hope you find it. Kep your eye peeled on ebay and tell the police. Had my bike stolen afew years ago aswell. Not a cheap one either. Just rewined me for afew weeks. Less then 1 min outside a shop when day light saving changed over in 2006. Incrediable. Hope all works out
Aye, the police can often happen upon it if ya have an accurate description, serial number or picture :3. Especially one of that quality.
Ive had more than a bike stolen before, and trust me the feeling of utter violation and rage for this individual just holds no bounds. Fuckin assholes.

'round here chains are known to be... easily bypassed with a bolt cutter or hacksaw, as are cables. The most secure method of bicycle locking I'm aware of is the kryptonite U-Lock
http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4024135&emssrcid=GoogleBase:PS4024135&gclid=CI3-mtzrmK8CFSWFQAodPyr4ww
bolt cutters are pretty useless against these, and leverage attacks (like bottle jacks) require fairly significant preparation, and can be difficult to pull off depending on how the lock is positioned. Generally a U-Locked bike isn't worth the trouble for the thief.
Sorry you had to learn about the quality of locks in such a brutal way. :(
Here's to hoping it's recovered hun :C
In the future, you can deter thieves by keeping the saddle with you. Most don't want to ride a pole up their arse, and apart from that it makes it even more obvious that it is stolen. Also, a second chain through the wheels works, even if it's overkill, you can wrap it discreetly around the saddle-neck.

Doing that today with a friend, going to all the 2nd0hand bike stores, just in case..
though Melbourne is a HUGE area, and if anyone was serious about wanting/selling it off they'de ride it to the next town over and never come back to the area again~ :'C

Apparently D Locks are better than chains, and you're probably safest chaining your bike up at a bike rack where you can. The thief is probably less likely to pick out your bike from the crowd, but more importantly, there are constantly other cyclists coming and going. They would probably know what it's like to have a bike stolen at one point or another, or at least have the fear of bike theft, so they would be more likely to at least question the thief than a passerby.
AWWRRR NOES!! >.> That totally sucks mega BIG time!! >.< I recon you'd feel just as bad or worse than me when I realised my awesome camera went missing Midfur 2010 X_x.. my problem was is that I the last place i saw it was at home, and don't know where/how it could dissappear ;_;
Crazy bought me a bike for my b'day recently too, i'd feel terrible if someone stole a precious gift from me =(
I hope the bastard gets caught and somehow gets seriously injured.. from an unsuspecting train to the FACE O____O

Big City Bike Locking Procedures:
1) Put it inside whenever possible.
2) If it must be outside, lock it to a solid object that has a complete loop as part of it.
3) Make sure the object is made of steel, aluminum, concrete, or any other solid heavy man made building material. It should also be at a minimum one inch thick and either weigh more than 500 pounds or be physically attached to a solid object like a building or the ground with a permanent means that cannot be easily disassembled. Chain-link fence and sign posts are not secure or "heavy duty".
4) Take off the front tire and carry it with you.
5) Same with the seat.
6) Never use a chain or cable lock; a pair of bolt cutter and 5 seconds and your bike is gone.
7) Use a U-Lock made for bicycles and/or motocycles. Make sure the retention bar is at least one inch thick. I also reccomend Titanium alloy. Master lock makes one that is coated with a fire resistant shell and is rated for something like 30 minutes with an Oxygen/Acetylene cutting torch or plasma cutting torch.
8) Make certain that you lock the U-lock through a part of the frame that has a complete loop so that the lock cannot be simply slipped through the gap, and the rear tire.
9) Engrave your name and contact number as well as the serial number on the bike in a place where it cannot be readily seen at first glance. Use an engraver and make sure you cut into the metal, scratching the paint does nothing.
10) Be sure to keep the serial number and sales receipt together in your files so you can prove to the cops it is yours.
11) Take LOTS of pictures and keep physical paper pictures in your files with the receipt and serial number. Take pictures from every angle you can think of and of every tiny nook, cranny, and nuance of the bike. Every weld bead, every tube interior, every dent ding and imperfection. This is like a finger print for the bike.
