Yet another reference....for yet another creation....

Good lord, I can't help it.

Cryptwolves are, true to their name, very much like wolves in their behavior. Running in packs of at least 5-20, they are territorial by nature and will defend their home fiercely. Considerably bigger than a standard wolf, they are a fearsome breed. Alpha males typically have a harem of 2-3 females that they consider their own, any other females and males in the pack can bond as they wish, but are forbidden to have whelps unless the alpha allows it. Typically Cryptwolves mate for life, and one member of the alpha's harem will be considered his "true" mate.

Cryptwolves are highly intelligent and sociable when young, leading some people to try and steal them as pups to raise as pets. Their intelligence makes them fairly easy to domesticate and train, but pets are rarely seen, as it is extremely difficult to get into a pack's den without being torn to pieces by the parents and packmates. Cryptwolves are named for their tendency to live in abandoned crypts and in graveyards in the Gravelands, where they seem to have originated, though they can be found almost anywhere in Oscurita.
