An everlastingly delighful dish, compliments to the chefs that got together to create it from the kitchens of
seigi and friends...well done.
Some time ago my teacher assigned the class with a budget meal project. we were given $10.50 (total for all three group members) to work with in creating a meal that looked like it came from a 5 star restaurant and this is part of the meal that my group created. Tasted unbelievably good, almost as good as the brownies with caramel sauce that was made a few months ago @>@
Cake:
Ingredients:
2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 cups granulated sugar, divided
4 extra-large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 sponge cake pans
mix butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment for about 5 minutes, or until light and fluffy. With the mixer on medium speed, beat in the eggs, 1 at a time.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt (twice). In another bowl, combine the buttermilk and vanilla. Add the flour and buttermilk mixtures alternately to the batter, beginning and ending with the flour. Divide the batter evenly between the pans, smooth the tops, and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until a cake tester comes out clean.
Blueberry Sauce:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 pints fresh, rinsed, blueberries
1 cup vanilla sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Combine blueberries and vanilla sugar in a large saucepan. Add 1 cup water and the lemon juice and bring to a boil over high heat while stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the mixture begins to thicken.
Whipped Cream Topping:
Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Whip cream in mixer until almost stiff. Add sugar and vanilla and beat until cream holds peaks
