Apealing apples sitting with sensational french toast from the kitchens of
xenke
I made this at 10 pm, not because I was hungry (I ate it anyway...), but because I had some eggs and some milk to use up before they went bad. The fried apples turned out to be the star here (first time too!), and I'll definitely be making them again sometime.
French Toast
2 eggs
~1.5 tbsp milk (I never measure this out, FYI, so this measurement may be iffy)
ground cinnamon (to taste)
pure vanilla extract (to taste*)
bread that has either gone stale, or just has not flavor to begin with
butter (for the pan)
brown sugar for serving
(*For though un familiar with vanilla extract, please be cautious with how much you use. For starters, try 1/8~1/4 tsp)
This is really simple, mixed everything in a bowl (save bread and butter obviously), making sure the eg is well beat. Soak the bread in the egg mixture, and yes, make sure it's soaked, you don't want your bread to be dry in the middle. Heat the pan to medium low, with the pan greased with butter (butter gives it that nice breakfast-y taste). Fry it up until pressing on the egg-bread is less squishy and more firm. Sprinkle with brown sugar and serve (yourself!!).
Fried Apple
1 apple (I used an Opal apple, if you've never had one I recommend it)
1/4 stick of butter.
ground cinnamon
brown sugar
Peel the apple and cut the core out (I did this buy cutting it into quarters). Melt the butter in a pan on low-ish heat. cut the apple into slices, not too thin or the apple will overcook (I made three slices per quarter, 12 slices total, but I could could have done it so I got 16). Lay the apple slices in the molten butter, and coat with cinnamon and brown sugar to taste (don't overdo it on the sugar, it's a bitch to clean of if you do too much!). Cook until it starts to caramelize, flip and wait for caramelization again, then remove and eat.
So good. x_x
